I’ve been saying it for the past year — The Onion is back.  God damn, this is funny.

Sometimes I like to look way back at some of the more prolific bloggers and see what they were writing about back in the days. Doing this every once in a while gives a fresh perspective on the issues of the current day. When you ask, how did we get to this point, you can say - “well, this is where we were five years ago.”

Today we look at May 1, 2003 @ the Instapundit. Looks like it was a “surprising” day for him. It is also the day Bush touched down on the USS Abraham Lincoln and gave his “mission accomplished” speech.

  • Surprise - The two British suicide bombers who blew up a seafront bar in Tel Aviv, killing three people, had posed earlier as peace activists, acting as “human shields” for Palestinians
  • Surprise - RAGEH OMAAR, the BBC’s star correspondent in Baghdad during the Iraq war, developed a close and potentially embarrassing relationship with the director of Iraq’s Ministry of Information, who was responsible for controlling foreign correspondents.
  • FBI Crime Lab incompetence in the McVeigh case.
  • Explaining math to the NY Times.
  • Not thrilled with Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech - a nice roundup of links.
  • Cincy dropping a gun suit against manufacturers.
  • Daniel Drezner says Iraq is going well — Afghanistan, not so much.
  • Why technology beat the SARS virus (remember that hysteria?)
  • Eric Mcerlain a letter from Iraq. Interesting stuff.
  • More crushing of dissent
  • Looking at German predictions of the war
  • Media cover-up for George Galloway?
  • Is Glenn too hard on Bush? He didn’t think so.
  • More crushing of dissent.
  • Appreciating John Howard.
  • Arthur Silber on gay history.
  • Criticizing Bush’s secrecy as policy.
  • More crushing of dissent, this time out of Hollywood.
  • Boris Johnson on Civilian casualties.
  • Lileks says blogging is easier than writing columns.
  • Kaus dissing Gary Hart’s blog.
  • Terror attacks down significantly.

Now THAT is a prolific day of blogger. Amazing…

Why the leftists don’t “get” the monumentally funny and intelligent “The People’s Cube.” Great report…

P.S. Can I get a POPE t-shirt?

How sweet. His parents should win some sort of award for this, right? How about a free five year hotel accommodation in a federal penitentiary?

Listening Americans?
One of your presidents will die.
I’m not bullshitting on now.
I am serious.
I am a kid who is going to blow my brains off if we don’t get this guy off the office.
I’m talking about George W. Bush.
I’m not bullshitting with you America right now.
I’m going to do some things.
My thing is to get this guy off.
But really, I’m going to kill him.
I don’t care how, but I’m not but one of people is.
When you hear George W. Bush is dead, I did it.
But remember, I’m not doing this because of the fame.
But I am doing this because I am pissed off at him.
That motherfuck - he don’t deserve to breath.
That’s why I gonna take care of what I should be taking care of.
But believe this right here.
He will die.
Who? Unknown.
When? Unknown.
By who and how? I know that.
Right in this brain.
With this brain, you’re gonna get, have a big hole right here, because a crazy motherfucker made him do it.
I’m talking about you, George W. Bush.
You might be laughing at me right now.
You can write any stupid comments you want.
Or you can write another response.
It’s not going to stop me.
It’s going to die.
(signals a gun to the head)
I’m not bullshitting with you right now.
But listen to me.
I’m about to give you the date.
You better write this day down right now.
The date is gonna be…

At ReadWriteWeb

New research from the University of Buffalo and University of Hawaii concludes that young people who watch reality TV are more likely to accept a large number of unknown friends and to post photos of themselves on social networking sites than their peers who do not watch shows like American Idol and Survivor. The researchers deemed such behavior “promiscuous.”

Why is it only blogs report these stories, asks Vodkapundit? Also, don’t miss his drunk live blog on the debacle in Pennsylvania yesterday.
